This is the view from the top of the hill..
Over the mountains on the horizon is New York City, 100 miles away.
2 hours by car but a world apart in spirit.
Sitting at the top of this hill, all you'll hear are birds and wind -- and the sound of your own voice sighing at the beauty of nature and the profound peace and solitude.

When we were first shown this property in 1969, the real estate agent picked us up at the bottom of the driveway and, not stopping at the houses below, drove us immediately up here and said, "Well, what do you think?"

The name of the mountain, though it faces south, is East Mountain.. It's the southernmost face of the Catskill Mountain Range which stretches behind you to Woodstock, Hunter Mountain, Slide Mountain and Saugerties, ending around Delhi. This property was once the Furman Farm, principally a dairy farm but growing everything necessary for the maintenance of a 19th Century American pioneer family.

The water you see is the Rondout Reservoir.  The pure Catskill water in it will eventually come out of taps in New York City.

Trees have grown on a good portion of the 1110 acres but in recent years we've been bringing the fields back. A walk through the property will reveal scores of wild apple and pear trees, strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries and the mushrooms that gourmet chefs prize. And you'll probably see some deer, wild turkeys and rabbits and maybe a fox.  Bluebiirds, hummingbirds and songbirds of all types are at home here -- after all, it is their home.

But let's go back down the hill now.
